- Meroplan 1 gm is an antibiotic injection that contains Meropenem as the active ingredient. What it is used for Meropenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic used in hospitals to treat serious bacterial infections, such as: Severe lung infections / pneumonia Sepsis (blood infection) Meningitis Complicated urinary tract infections Intra-abdominal infections Skin and soft tissue infections Serious infections in ICU patients How it is given Given as an IV injection or IV infusion Administered by a doctor or nurse in a hospital Typical dosing: 1 g every 8 hours (varies by infection and kidney function) Important precautions Only for bacterial infections, not viral illnesses. Dose must be adjusted in kidney disease. Possible side effects: Nausea or diarrhea Headache Injection site pain Rarely seizures in high doses or kidney problems. Do not use if Allergy to carbapenem antibiotics (like meropenem, imipenem). Use cautiously with Valproic Acid because meropenem can reduce its effect. Important: This medicine is usually used only in hospitals for serious infections and should not be self-administered.
